ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
Biome is a boutique landscape architecture design studio based in Sydney’s inner west, led by Director Xhian McIntyre. We create landscapes that are site-specific, robust, low-maintenance, thoughtful and ecologically rich.
Biome uses a systems-thinking approach of landscape architecture to design high performance landscapes. We strive for creative thinking that addresses complex relationships within the urban and natural environments.
OUR APPROACH
Our approach stems from the belief that humans are not separate from the landscapes around them; we’re part of the system. Every site holds a unique story shaped by topography, water, habitat and human culture. We dig deep to understand those layers, then design landscapes that feel natural, necessary and alive.
We balance what’s built with what already exists, uncovering beauty in both. Whether urban, rural, or somewhere in between; our designs respond to the needs of our clients. We create spaces that meet program, budget and the community.
Our team is experienced in working with clients in both Australia and the United States, including Lend Lease, Deicorp, Boston Properties, Related, the National Football league, Caltech, the State of California, Sutherland Shire Council, Randwick City Council and Camden Council.
We also bring over a decade of experience in successful collaboration with some of the world’s most talented and respected architects including Foster + Partners, Bjarke Ingels Group, Zaha Hadid, Grimshaw, SOM and Gensler.
